IATA codes are three-letter identifiers assigned by the International Air Transport Association to airports, such as JFK for New York or LHR for London Heathrow. In air cargo they appear on air waybills and booking systems to specify the origin and destination airports unambiguously.
What is the difference between IATA and ICAO airport codes?
IATA codes are three letters used commercially on tickets, air waybills and booking systems (for example LHR). ICAO codes are four letters used operationally by air traffic control and flight planning (for example EGLL for the same airport). Air cargo tracking generally uses the IATA code.
