Ocean Carrier & Container Tracking FAQ
What is a SCAC code?
A SCAC (Standard Carrier Alpha Code) is a unique two to four letter code that identifies an ocean carrier or transport company. Panvaya uses it to detect the right shipping line automatically when you track a container.
Which ocean carriers does Panvaya support?
Panvaya tracks containers across 100+ ocean carriers and NVOCCs, including Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, Evergreen, COSCO and many more. Browse the full list above or search by name or SCAC.
What is an NVOCC?
A Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier issues its own bills of lading and consolidates cargo, but does not operate the vessels itself. Many NVOCCs are included in this directory alongside vessel-operating lines.
How do I track a container with a specific carrier?
Open any carrier to see its profile, then enter a container or bill of lading number to start tracking. Panvaya pulls live status, ETA and port call history across the carrier network.
Is the ocean carrier directory free?
Yes. Browsing carriers and looking up SCAC codes is completely free and needs no sign-up. Create a free account when you want to track your own shipments.
What is the difference between a carrier SCAC and a vessel IMO number?
A SCAC identifies the carrier or shipping line as a company, while an IMO number is a permanent seven-digit identifier assigned to an individual vessel for its entire life. You track a shipment by carrier (SCAC) plus a container or bill of lading number, whereas the IMO number identifies the specific ship carrying it.
How do I find a shipping line's SCAC code?
Search this directory by carrier name to see its SCAC code, or check the first four letters of your container number, which usually match the owning line. Panvaya also detects the carrier automatically from the container or bill of lading number when you start tracking.
