MacAndrews

SCAC: MCAW

Historic short-sea line, founded 1770, now part of CMA CGM's intra-European Containerships network

MacAndrews is one of the oldest names in European shipping. The story begins in 1770, when William MacAndrews settled in Liverpool and began importing fresh fruit from Spain in fast schooners. His descendants formalized the business as Robert MacAndrews & Co, founded in London in 1853 as shipbrokers and shipowners, and by 1900 the firm ran more than two dozen ships trading between Britain and the Iberian Peninsula.

About MacAndrews

MacAndrews is one of the oldest names in European shipping. The story begins in 1770, when William MacAndrews settled in Liverpool and began importing fresh fruit from Spain in fast schooners. His descendants formalized the business as Robert MacAndrews & Co, founded in London in 1853 as shipbrokers and shipowners, and by 1900 the firm ran more than two dozen ships trading between Britain and the Iberian Peninsula.

For most of its modern life MacAndrews stayed close to that founding trade. It became a short-sea container and multimodal specialist, linking North and Central Europe with Spain, Portugal, the Canary Islands, and Morocco using a combination of sea, road, and rail. The company joined the CMA CGM Group in 2002 and absorbed fellow Iberian short-sea operator OPDR in 2018, building an integrated intra-European door-to-door network.

The MacAndrews brand itself was retired on 1 April 2019, when CMA CGM folded it, along with its Finnish acquisition Containerships, into a single Containerships brand covering the group's intra-European short-sea business. Shippers may still encounter the SCAC MCAW on older bookings and bills of lading, but the underlying services now operate under Containerships within CMA CGM.

MacAndrews container tracking FAQ

Is MacAndrews still an active shipping brand?

Not as a standalone brand. On 1 April 2019 CMA CGM merged MacAndrews and its Finnish subsidiary Containerships into a single Containerships brand for intra-European short-sea shipping. The SCAC MCAW may still appear on legacy bookings and bills of lading.

Who owns MacAndrews?

MacAndrews joined the CMA CGM Group, the French container shipping giant, in 2002. It later absorbed OPDR in 2018 before being consolidated under the Containerships brand within CMA CGM.

What routes did MacAndrews serve?

MacAndrews was a short-sea and multimodal specialist connecting North and Central Europe with the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal), the Canary Islands, and Morocco, combining sea, road, and rail transport.

How do I check MacAndrews tracking availability on Panvaya?

Enter a MacAndrews container number in the tracker on this page. If the carrier integration is available, Panvaya returns the shipment milestones and route. If it is still being onboarded, you can send a carrier request and ask to be notified when support becomes available.

What is MacAndrews's SCAC code?

MacAndrews's SCAC code is MCAW. It identifies MacAndrews on bills of lading and shipping documents and helps Panvaya match a reference to the correct carrier integration.

Can I track MacAndrews containers by Bill of Lading or booking number?

Bill of Lading and booking tracking is available after sign-in when Panvaya supports that reference type for MacAndrews. Carrier capabilities vary, so Panvaya shows a clear availability message instead of returning incomplete tracking data.

Is MacAndrews container tracking free on Panvaya?

A guest can check one container without signing in when MacAndrews tracking is supported. A Panvaya account is required for saved journeys, Bill of Lading or booking tracking, exception alerts, and additional shipments.

Why isn't my MacAndrews container updating?

Carrier milestones can appear after the physical movement occurs. If MacAndrews is supported and the container is valid, a quiet timeline may mean the next event has not yet been published. If the carrier is not yet available, Panvaya will show an onboarding message and a carrier-request option.

How accurate is the ETA for MacAndrews shipments?

When MacAndrews tracking is supported and enough journey data is available, Panvaya updates the displayed arrival estimate as new milestones and vessel information arrive. Any ETA remains an estimate rather than a delivery guarantee.
