SCAC: MAEU

Copenhagen-based integrated logistics group and the world's second-largest container carrier, founding partner of Gemini Cooperation.

A.P. Moller-Maersk traces back to 1904, when Arnold Peter Moller and his father Peter Maersk Moller founded a steamship company in Svendborg, Denmark. Over five generations the Maersk family built it into a shipping and logistics group headquartered in Copenhagen, operating in around 130 countries. Held the title of world's largest container line for years, Maersk slipped to second place behind Mediterranean Shipping Company in 2022, and today runs a fleet of roughly 700 owned and chartered vessels with total capacity above 4 million TEU.

About Maersk

The company has spent the past decade reshaping itself from a pure ocean carrier into an integrated logistics provider, adding air freight, warehousing, inland transport, and customs brokerage alongside its container business. Its 2017 acquisition of Hamburg Sud brought the Hamburg Sud and Alianca brands into the group, which also includes Sealand for regional trades and APM Terminals for port operations.

In February 2025 Maersk left the 2M partnership with MSC and launched Gemini Cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd, built around a hub-and-spoke model aimed at high schedule reliability. Maersk contributes about 60 percent of the pool. At the venture's one-year mark, Gemini reported schedule reliability near 90 percent, with Asia to North Europe and Transatlantic lanes running above 95 percent.

Maersk container tracking FAQ

Where is Maersk headquartered and when was it founded?

Maersk, formally A.P. Moller-Maersk, is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was founded in 1904 by Arnold Peter Moller and his father Peter Maersk Moller in Svendborg.

What does the SCAC code MAEU identify?

MAEU is the Standard Carrier Alpha Code assigned to Maersk. It appears on bills of lading, booking references, and container documentation to identify Maersk as the ocean carrier.

Which shipping alliance does Maersk belong to?

Maersk is a founding member of Gemini Cooperation, launched with Hapag-Lloyd in February 2025, contributing roughly 60 percent of the shared vessel pool. It previously operated in the 2M alliance with MSC.

How do I track a Maersk shipment?

Enter your Maersk container number, Bill of Lading (BOL), or booking number into Panvaya's tracker. You'll get the live vessel route, milestone events, and a predictive ETA in real time, with no Maersk account or login needed for a quick lookup.

What is Maersk's SCAC code?

Maersk's SCAC code is MAEU. It identifies Maersk on bills of lading and shipping documents. On Panvaya you don't need to enter it. Just paste your container, BOL, or booking number and we detect the carrier automatically.

Can I track Maersk containers by Bill of Lading or booking number?

Yes. Panvaya supports Maersk tracking by container number, Bill of Lading (BOL), and booking reference (BK). Any of the three returns the same real-time route, port calls, and ETA.

Is Maersk container tracking free on Panvaya?

Yes, you can track Maersk shipments for free, with no login for a quick lookup. Sign in to unlock the full journey: detailed milestones, predictive ETAs, transhipment legs, and exception alerts.

Why isn't my Maersk container updating?

Maersk tracking reflects what the carrier and vessel feeds have reported, so there is often a lag between a real-world move and the update. Panvaya refreshes on a regular cycle; a shipment that looks stuck usually just means the next milestone (such as vessel departure or discharge) hasn't been filed yet.

How accurate is the ETA for Maersk shipments?

Panvaya combines Maersk's schedule with live vessel position and historical performance to predict arrival, and refines the ETA as the journey progresses and conditions change. It is a continuously updated estimate, not a guarantee.
