DHL Global Forwarding

SCAC: DHC2

Ocean and air freight forwarding arm of DHL Group, moving roughly 3.3 million TEU by sea a year

DHL Global Forwarding is the air and ocean freight forwarding division of DHL Group (formerly Deutsche Post DHL Group), based in Bonn, Germany. It is a freight forwarder and NVOCC rather than a vessel operator, so it does not own container ships or run its own liner services. Instead it books space with ocean carriers and consolidates cargo on behalf of customers, which is why it carries the SCAC code DHC2 on ocean bills of lading.

About DHL Global Forwarding

DHL Global Forwarding is the air and ocean freight forwarding division of DHL Group (formerly Deutsche Post DHL Group), based in Bonn, Germany. It is a freight forwarder and NVOCC rather than a vessel operator, so it does not own container ships or run its own liner services. Instead it books space with ocean carriers and consolidates cargo on behalf of customers, which is why it carries the SCAC code DHC2 on ocean bills of lading.

The business traces its roots to Danzas, a forwarder founded in Saint-Louis, Alsace in 1815 and long associated with nearby Basel, Switzerland. Deutsche Post acquired Danzas in 2000, folded it into the group as DHL Danzas Air & Ocean after taking full control of DHL in 2002, and dropped the Danzas name in 2005 for DHL Global Forwarding. Today it operates in more than 190 countries with tens of thousands of forwarding staff.

On the ocean side it handles both FCL and LCL, with a groupage network of more than 4,000 LCL specialists offering direct consolidation between major ports. In 2024 the division moved around 3.3 million TEU by sea, up about 7 percent on the prior year, across the main east-west and intra-Asia lanes. It also provides temperature-controlled shipping, customs brokerage, and project cargo handling.

DHL Global Forwarding container tracking FAQ

Is DHL Global Forwarding a shipping line or a freight forwarder?

It is a freight forwarder and NVOCC, not a vessel operator. DHL Global Forwarding does not own container ships. It books space with the ocean carriers and consolidates cargo, which is why its shipments move under the SCAC code DHC2 rather than a carrier-owned vessel service.

Who owns DHL Global Forwarding?

It is the air and ocean freight forwarding division of DHL Group, formerly Deutsche Post DHL Group, headquartered in Bonn, Germany. The business grew out of the Swiss forwarder Danzas, which Deutsche Post acquired in 2000 and rebranded as DHL Global Forwarding in 2005.

How much ocean freight does DHL Global Forwarding move?

In 2024 the division carried roughly 3.3 million TEU by sea, about 7 percent more than the 3.1 million TEU it moved the previous year. It handles both full container load and less than container load shipments across the major global trade lanes.

How do I track a DHL Global Forwarding shipment?

Enter your DHL Global Forwarding container number, Bill of Lading (BOL), or booking number into Panvaya's tracker. You'll get the live vessel route, milestone events, and a predictive ETA in real time, with no DHL Global Forwarding account or login needed for a quick lookup.

What is DHL Global Forwarding's SCAC code?

DHL Global Forwarding's SCAC code is DHC2. It identifies DHL Global Forwarding on bills of lading and shipping documents. On Panvaya you don't need to enter it. Just paste your container, BOL, or booking number and we detect the carrier automatically.

Can I track DHL Global Forwarding containers by Bill of Lading or booking number?

Yes. Panvaya supports DHL Global Forwarding tracking by container number, Bill of Lading (BOL), and booking reference (BK). Any of the three returns the same real-time route, port calls, and ETA.

Is DHL Global Forwarding container tracking free on Panvaya?

Yes, you can track DHL Global Forwarding shipments for free, with no login for a quick lookup. Sign in to unlock the full journey: detailed milestones, predictive ETAs, transhipment legs, and exception alerts.

Why isn't my DHL Global Forwarding container updating?

DHL Global Forwarding tracking reflects what the carrier and vessel feeds have reported, so there is often a lag between a real-world move and the update. Panvaya refreshes on a regular cycle; a shipment that looks stuck usually just means the next milestone (such as vessel departure or discharge) hasn't been filed yet.

How accurate is the ETA for DHL Global Forwarding shipments?

Panvaya combines DHL Global Forwarding's schedule with live vessel position and historical performance to predict arrival, and refines the ETA as the journey progresses and conditions change. It is a continuously updated estimate, not a guarantee.
