The business traces its roots to Danzas, a forwarder founded in Saint-Louis, Alsace in 1815 and long associated with nearby Basel, Switzerland. Deutsche Post acquired Danzas in 2000, folded it into the group as DHL Danzas Air & Ocean after taking full control of DHL in 2002, and dropped the Danzas name in 2005 for DHL Global Forwarding. Today it operates in more than 190 countries with tens of thousands of forwarding staff.
On the ocean side it handles both FCL and LCL, with a groupage network of more than 4,000 LCL specialists offering direct consolidation between major ports.
