Sealand

SCAC: SEJJ

Maersk's intra-regional feeder brand, heir to Sea-Land, the line that launched containerization in 1956

Sealand is the regional container brand of A.P. Moller-Maersk, and it carries one of the most important names in shipping history. Its lineage runs back to Sea-Land Service, the company Malcom McLean built after he sent the converted tanker Ideal-X from Newark to Houston on April 26, 1956, carrying 58 boxes and inaugurating containerized ocean transport. Maersk bought Sea-Land's international operations in 1999, ran them as Maersk Sealand, then folded the name into Maersk Line by 2006.

About Sealand

Sealand is the regional container brand of A.P. Moller-Maersk, and it carries one of the most important names in shipping history. Its lineage runs back to Sea-Land Service, the company Malcom McLean built after he sent the converted tanker Ideal-X from Newark to Houston on April 26, 1956, carrying 58 boxes and inaugurating containerized ocean transport. Maersk bought Sea-Land's international operations in 1999, ran them as Maersk Sealand, then folded the name into Maersk Line by 2006.

The brand came back in January 2015. Maersk revived Sealand to run intra-regional trades that its global mainline network did not serve efficiently, pairing ocean sailings with truck and rail across North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean from a base in Miramar, Florida. Parallel entities covered short-sea and feeder trades in Europe and Africa. The SCAC SEJJ specifically identifies the Sealand Europe operation, distinct from Sealand Americas, which used SEAU.

The regional experiment was relatively short-lived. Through 2023 Maersk reintegrated Sealand's commercial and operational activity into its own organization, and the standalone brand was retired at the end of that year. Bookings and container tracking that once ran under Sealand now sit on the Maersk platform, though SEJJ-prefixed boxes and legacy references remain in circulation.

Sealand container tracking FAQ

Is Sealand still a separate shipping line?

No. Maersk reintegrated Sealand's operations through 2023 and retired the standalone brand at the end of that year. Bookings and tracking now run on the Maersk platform, though SEJJ containers and legacy references still appear.

What does the SCAC SEJJ identify?

SEJJ is the Standard Carrier Alpha Code for Sealand Europe. It is distinct from Sealand Americas, which used the SCAC SEAU.

Who owns Sealand and what is its history?

Sealand was a brand of A.P. Moller-Maersk. Its heritage runs back to Sea-Land Service, founded by Malcom McLean, whose ship Ideal-X made the first containerized voyage in 1956. Maersk acquired the international business in 1999.

How do I check Sealand tracking availability on Panvaya?

Enter a Sealand container number in the tracker on this page. If the carrier integration is available, Panvaya returns the shipment milestones and route. If it is still being onboarded, you can send a carrier request and ask to be notified when support becomes available.

What is Sealand's SCAC code?

Sealand's SCAC code is SEJJ. It identifies Sealand on bills of lading and shipping documents and helps Panvaya match a reference to the correct carrier integration.

Can I track Sealand containers by Bill of Lading or booking number?

Bill of Lading and booking tracking is available after sign-in when Panvaya supports that reference type for Sealand. Carrier capabilities vary, so Panvaya shows a clear availability message instead of returning incomplete tracking data.

Is Sealand container tracking free on Panvaya?

A guest can check one container without signing in when Sealand tracking is supported. A Panvaya account is required for saved journeys, Bill of Lading or booking tracking, exception alerts, and additional shipments.

Why isn't my Sealand container updating?

Carrier milestones can appear after the physical movement occurs. If Sealand is supported and the container is valid, a quiet timeline may mean the next event has not yet been published. If the carrier is not yet available, Panvaya will show an onboarding message and a carrier-request option.

How accurate is the ETA for Sealand shipments?

When Sealand tracking is supported and enough journey data is available, Panvaya updates the displayed arrival estimate as new milestones and vessel information arrive. Any ETA remains an estimate rather than a delivery guarantee.
