Cargoitalia S.p.A. was an Italian all-cargo airline headquartered at the Avioport logistics park in Lonate Pozzolo, in the Province of Varese near Milan. Ownership passed to ALIS Holding, through Alis Aerolinee Italiane, which acquired Cargoitalia in December 2008 partly to secure an air operator certificate for a planned bid on Alitalia's cargo division. After earlier operating a McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30AF freighter from 2006, the carrier relaunched scheduled revenue services in May 2009 with a single McDonnell Douglas MD-11F. The freighter fleet later grew to as many as three leased MD-11F aircraft, all configured purely for main-deck cargo with no passenger operations.
From Malpensa, Cargoitalia flew long-haul freighter routes linking Italy with the Far East, the Middle East and North America. Documented destinations included Shanghai Pudong and Hong Kong in Asia, Dubai and Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, Chicago O'Hare and New York JFK in the United States, and Krasnoyarsk in Russia. Facing a difficult airfreight market, the airline ceased all operations on 21 December 2011, and its remaining MD-11F aircraft were withdrawn the following year.
