LOT Polish Airlines Air Cargo Profile

Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT, known as LOT Polish Airlines, is the national carrier of Poland, founded on 29 December 1928, which makes it one of the oldest continuously operating airlines in the world. The airline is controlled by the Polish Aviation Group (Polska Grupa Lotnicza), a state holding company, and has been a member of Star Alliance since October 2003. Its main base is Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW), with Kraków (KRK) serving as a secondary hub. The carrier operates a hub-and-spoke network linking Central and Eastern Europe with intercontinental destinations.

Cargo is handled under the LOT Cargo brand. As of 2024 and 2025 the airline flies no dedicated freighters and carries all its air freight as belly cargo in the lower holds of scheduled passenger flights. The heaviest lift comes from its widebody Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, roughly fifteen aircraft split between the 787-8 and the longer 787-9, which serve long-haul routes to North America and Asia. Narrowbody Boeing 737 MAX and Embraer E-Jets add belly capacity across the dense intra-European and regional network feeding the Warsaw hub.

LOT Cargo concentrates its long-haul freight on transatlantic lanes to the United States and Canada and on Europe-to-Asia services reaching China, Japan, South Korea and India, complemented by extensive road feeder trucking across Europe. The airline has publicly outlined plans to launch a dedicated freighter fleet by 2028 and to expand belly capacity as it modernises its widebody aircraft. These ambitions are tied to broader Polish infrastructure projects, including expanded cargo facilities at Warsaw and the planned Solidarity Transport Hub (CPK), intended to position Warsaw as a Central European air freight gateway.
