Avianca Air Cargo Profile

Avianca (IATA AV, ICAO AVA) is the flag carrier of Colombia and one of the oldest airlines in the world, tracing its origin to SCADTA, founded on 5 December 1919. Headquartered in Bogota, it joined Star Alliance in 2012. Since 2022 Avianca has been held by Abra Group, a Latin American aviation holding company that also controls Brazil's GOL. Its air freight is carried by Avianca Cargo, a distinct all-cargo operator based in Medellin that flies under its own IATA code QT and ICAO code TPA, plus belly capacity on the passenger network.

Avianca Cargo began in 1973 as TAMPA Cargo and adopted the Avianca Cargo name in 2013. The dedicated freighter fleet is built entirely on the Airbus A330, with about six factory-built A330-200F aircraft joined by converted A330-300P2F freighters, each able to lift more than 60 tonnes. A Mexican subsidiary, Avianca Cargo Mexico, adds two A330P2F aircraft, and the group has continued converting passenger A330s to freighters to expand capacity across the Americas.

Flowers are the core product. Avianca Cargo moves more than 100,000 tonnes of roses, carnations and orchids a year from Colombia and Ecuador to the United States, Europe and Asia, and describes itself as the top carrier of Colombian flowers to the US. Its network centres on Bogota El Dorado (BOG) and Medellin (MDE) in Colombia, San Salvador (SAL), and Miami (MIA), where it ranks among the airport's largest cargo handlers. Cold-chain and temperature-controlled facilities support perishables, pharmaceuticals and general freight throughout the Americas and on lanes to Europe.
