Iberia, legally Iberia Lineas Aereas de Espana, is the flag carrier of Spain, incorporated in June 1927 and flying its first service that December. Iberia operates no dedicated freighter aircraft. Its cargo is carried entirely in the lower holds of passenger widebodies, principally the Airbus A330-200, A330-300 and A350-900, supplemented by A320-family belly space on shorthaul feeder routes. During the 2020 to 2021 demand surge Iberia stripped seats from several A330-300s to run them as cargo-only "preighters", adding roughly 105 cubic metres or 18,000 kg of cabin load per aircraft, but those jets were reconverted to standard passenger layout as belly capacity normalised. Today Iberia's freight footprint scales with its passenger widebody schedule rather than with any standalone all-cargo fleet.
Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez Airport is Iberia's home base and IAG Cargo's Continental European hub, handling well over 200,000 tonnes of freight a year and functioning as the group's primary bridge between Europe and Latin America. Iberia's dense Latin American schedule, where it holds a majority of IAG's South American market share, underpins strong perishables and pharmaceutical lanes. IAG Cargo has invested in Madrid accordingly, expanding a temperature-controlled perishables facility in 2024 and operating a Good Distribution Practice certified Constant Climate centre for time and temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, with cold-chain pharma volumes across the group rising about 22 percent in 2024.
