IndiGo Airlines Air Cargo Profile

IndiGo, operated by InterGlobe Aviation Limited and headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana, was founded in 2005 and began flying in August 2006. It grew into India's largest airline by fleet size and domestic market share, running an all-narrowbody operation of more than 400 Airbus A320-family jets and ATR 72-600 turboprops. Its cargo division, branded IndiGo CarGo, uses IATA code 6E, ICAO code IGO, and air waybill prefix 312. For most of its history cargo moved almost entirely in the belly holds of passenger aircraft across the airline's dense domestic and short-haul international network.

IndiGo CarGo launched dedicated freighter operations to build main-deck capacity on top of its belly business. Its first Airbus A321-200 P2F entered service on the Delhi to Mumbai sector, with conversions carried out by Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW), the ST Engineering and Airbus joint venture. Each A321P2F carries roughly 27 tonnes of payload across about 24 container and pallet positions on the main deck. By 2024 to 2025 the carrier operated three such freighters, with a fourth aircraft planned for induction in late 2025 as it scaled up scheduled maindeck capacity.

The freighter network centres on Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), Bengaluru (BLR), and Kolkata (CCU), connecting India with the Gulf, China, and Southeast Asia. Reported routings have included Kolkata to Ezhou in China, Bengaluru to Dubai, and services toward Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Yangon, targeting e-commerce, electronics, and pharmaceutical flows. Combined with belly capacity across the passenger network, IndiGo reported carrying several hundred thousand tonnes of cargo annually. As an independent carrier, IndiGo holds no global passenger alliance membership, and IndiGo CarGo competes as a domestic and regional freight operator.
