Thai Airways Air Cargo Profile

Thai Airways International (IATA TG, ICAO THA) is the flag carrier of Thailand, founded in 1960 as a joint venture between the domestic Thai Airways Company and Scandinavian Airlines System. Its cargo division operates under the THAI Cargo brand, headquartered in Bangkok. The airline is a founding member of the Star Alliance, which it joined in 1997. Following a 2020 to 2024 court-supervised business rehabilitation, THAI lost its state-enterprise status; the Thai Ministry of Finance remains its largest single shareholder rather than a corporate parent group.

THAI Cargo does not operate dedicated freighters. The airline retired its last converted Boeing 747-400 freighters around 2015 and now carries all air freight in the lower-deck belly holds of its passenger widebody fleet, which includes the Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A350-900, Boeing 787-8 and 787-9, and Airbus A330-300. In May 2025 THAI signed a memorandum of understanding with Kansas Modification Center to convert Boeing 777-300ERs into freighters, with a supplemental type certificate expected in 2026, but no dedicated freighters were in service at the time of writing.

The operation is centred on Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), where THAI Cargo runs a terminal spanning roughly 90,000 square metres with annual throughput capacity above 1.2 million tonnes. Its network mirrors the passenger route map, linking Europe and Asia, intra-Asian markets, Australia and connections to the Middle East, Africa and North America. Specialised products include TGFresh and TGKool for temperature-controlled and perishable shipments, TGForce for expedited freight, and handling for live animals, valuables and pharmaceuticals, positioning Bangkok as a connecting point between Europe, Asia-Pacific and Oceania.
