Garuda Indonesia Air Cargo Profile

Garuda Indonesia is the national flag carrier of Indonesia, tracing its origins to Indonesian Airways in 1949 and to the earlier KLM Interinsulair Bedrijf network of 1947. It is a state-owned enterprise, with the Government of Indonesia holding the controlling stake through the Danantara sovereign investment vehicle and the remainder held by CT Corp's PT Trans Airways and public shareholders. Headquartered near Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Greater Jakarta, the carrier joined the SkyTeam alliance in March 2014, giving its cargo customers interline reach across partner networks worldwide.

Freight is handled under the Garuda Indonesia Cargo brand, which relies chiefly on belly-hold capacity beneath the passenger network rather than a standing all-cargo fleet. That capacity sits on around ten Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 widebodies, roughly six Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, and a large fleet of about 39 Boeing 737-800 narrowbodies as of late 2024. To add lift during demand peaks, the carrier has at times operated two leased Boeing 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters and A330-300 preighter conversions, but it does not run a permanent large freighter fleet.

The cargo operation is anchored at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), with additional activity at Denpasar/Bali (DPS), Makassar (UPG) and Medan (KNO). Its core strength is dense domestic distribution across the Indonesian archipelago, complemented by international lanes into intra-Asia markets, the Middle East and Australia that draw on SkyTeam connectivity. Typical traffic includes general cargo, perishables, e-commerce parcels and time-sensitive shipments. The airline has distributed its available capacity through digital booking platforms such as WebCargo to widen forwarder access to its belly and charter space.
