About KLM
KLM, formally Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij (Royal Dutch Airlines), was founded on 7 October 1919 and is the oldest airline still operating under its original name. Headquartered in Amstelveen with its hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, it carries the IATA code KL and ICAO code KLM. Since 2004 KLM has been part of the Air France-KLM Group and a member of the SkyTeam alliance. Its cargo activity is marketed jointly with Air France under the Air France KLM Martinair Cargo brand, formed when the two carriers combined their cargo operations in 2004.
KLM's dedicated main-deck freighter operations are handled by Martinair, a wholly owned KLM Group subsidiary based at Schiphol. As of 2024-25 Martinair operates four Boeing 747-400 freighters, comprising three 747-400ERF aircraft and one 747-400BCF converted freighter. Within the wider Air France KLM Martinair Cargo fleet of six freighters, these four sit on the KLM side, alongside two Boeing 777Fs flown by Air France from Paris. In 2024 KLM redeployed 747 freighter capacity toward Northern Europe to Asia lanes, including services linking Amsterdam with Hong Kong and later Incheon, to meet e-commerce demand.
Beyond dedicated freighters, most of KLM's cargo moves in the belly holds of its widebody passenger aircraft such as the Boeing 777, 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A330. Across the combined Air France KLM Martinair Cargo operation, roughly 82 percent of tonnage travels as belly cargo and about 18 percent on freighters, with the group loading around 917,000 tonnes in the 2024-25 period. From the second half of 2026 KLM's ageing 747-400 freighters are due to be replaced by new Airbus Airbus A350F full freighters, three of which are allocated to the KLM side of the group's order, cutting fuel burn and noise.

KLM's dedicated main-deck freighters are flown by Martinair, a wholly owned KLM Group subsidiary based at Amsterdam Schiphol, while additional capacity comes from the belly holds of KLM's passenger widebodies.
What freighter aircraft does KLM operate and from where?
As of 2024-25 the KLM side, through Martinair, operates four Boeing 747-400 freighters (three 747-400ERF and one 747-400BCF) from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS). These are scheduled to be replaced by new Airbus A350F full freighters starting in the second half of 2026.
What are KLM's IATA and ICAO codes, and who owns the airline?
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines uses IATA code KL and ICAO code KLM. Founded in 1919 and headquartered in Amstelveen, Netherlands, it is a subsidiary of the Air France-KLM Group and a member of the SkyTeam alliance.
How do I track a KLM shipment?
Enter your KLM Air Waybill (AWB) or Master Air Waybill (MAWB) number into Panvaya's tracker. You'll get the live flight route, milestone events, and a predictive ETA in real time, with no KLM account or login needed for a quick lookup.
What is KLM's IATA code?
KLM's IATA code is KL. It identifies KLM on bills of lading and shipping documents. On Panvaya you don't need to enter it. Just paste your AWB or MAWB number and we detect the carrier automatically.
Can I track KLM air cargo by AWB number?
Yes. Panvaya tracks KLM air cargo by Air Waybill (AWB) and Master Air Waybill (MAWB) number, returning live status, flight legs, and a predictive ETA.
Is KLM air cargo tracking free on Panvaya?
Yes, you can track KLM shipments for free, with no login for a quick lookup. Sign in to unlock the full journey: detailed milestones, predictive ETAs, transhipment legs, and exception alerts.
Why isn't my KLM air cargo updating?
KLM tracking reflects what the carrier and flight feeds have reported, so there is often a lag between a real-world move and the update. Panvaya refreshes on a regular cycle; a shipment that looks stuck usually just means the next milestone (such as uplift or arrival) hasn't been filed yet.
How accurate is the ETA for KLM shipments?
Panvaya combines KLM's schedule with live flight position and historical performance to predict arrival, and refines the ETA as the journey progresses and conditions change. It is a continuously updated estimate, not a guarantee.
